Édéa sits on the Sanaga river, halfway between Douala and Yaoundé, built around its hydroelectric dam and the aluminium plant that made the town. It is a convenient stop on the N3, about an hour's drive from Douala airport. The Douala-Édéa wildlife reserve, on the estuary, is visited from here.
